Hello again for May

The conference season is underway with the opportunity to meet all those people we 'talk with' online.
This weeks IIR Telco Event in Amsterdam was such an event with delegates from the South Africa, the US, Middle East and several European countries. An excellent venue (Movenpick) with the usual slick IIR organisation made for a good exchange. The first item therefore on our newsletter this month is the presentation I delivered.

Lots of activity in the discussion area and this month we passed the 1700 member mark. Don't forget the webinar series which kicks off next month!

Enjoy

BPM Manifesto - do we need one? - Theo Priestley

I have to ask, with all the furore the Cloud Manifesto has created, does our world need a once-and-done framework to finally define the who, what, why, where, how ?

Steve Roberts is the first of more than 40 responses...

Interesting question - especially the why. Few get beyond the immediate to mid-level reasons to trully discuss the full power of Business Process Management in a real-time / hyper competitive/ fully risk charged environment. The impacts on organisations and society will be profound. Do we dare ? Timing is important. Few organizations are beyond "level 1" of comprehension or "maturity". They might have to mature a bit more before discussing elements beyond level 5...

What's the best way to pitch BPM to a company that doesn't know that it needs it?
David Mottershead

Say you've identified an organisation that needs a little BPM, what is the message that gets people excited the most? Is it a crown, the triple crown, or something else? Is every organisation the same or does it depend on the type of organisation, the industry, the size of the organisation or who you speak to? (20 comments)

Do the frequently dysfunctional relationships between marketing and sales result more from poor process, internal politics, or other causes?
Dick Lee

This provocative question was posed in the High-Yield Methods/Office Process group. It triggered a heady discussion string with a number of incisive comments. (24 comments)

Are there benchmarks for cost savings/operational efficiencies gained fom automation in the Telecoms world?
Peter Ghys

We are looking for the cost savings and operational efficiencies of automating aspects of some processes. Ar there any benchmarks on how such activities have benefited Operators and the process/indicators to quantify it in terms of $.(New - 2 comments)

Is there value in documenting processes if you're going to change them?
Stan Kirkwood

I had a conversation with several executives who wish to document hundreds of processes before they get rid of them when they implement a new ERP system. I have spent many years redesigning processes and can't think of any real value in them doing what they plan on doing. They will spend tens of thousands of dollars and will throw away the results. Few, if any, of these processes are considered critical. (57 comments)
