BPM Manifesto - do we need one? - Theo Priestley

I have to ask, with all the furore the Cloud Manifesto has created, does our world need a once-and-done framework to finally define the who, what, why, where, how ?

Steve Roberts is the first of more than 40 responses...

Interesting question - especially the why. Few get beyond the immediate to mid-level reasons to trully discuss the full power of Business Process Management in a real-time / hyper competitive/ fully risk charged environment. The impacts on organisations and society will be profound. Do we dare ? Timing is important. Few organizations are beyond "level 1" of comprehension or "maturity". They might have to mature a bit more before discussing elements beyond level 5...

Is there value in documenting processes if you're going to change them? - Stan Kirkwood

Stan sets the scene....
I had a conversation with several executives who wish to document hundreds of processes before they get rid of them when they implement a new ERP system. I have spent many years redesigning processes and can't think of any real value in them doing what they plan on doing. They will spend tens of thousands of dollars and will throw away the results. Few, if any, of these processes are considered critical.

Just looking for some thoughts. (More than 44 responses in the last month!)

Process Savings potential - Karl-Oskar Brännström

Karl-Oskar sets the ball rolling...
I am a believer. I believe BPM and BPMS can make companies more efficient. More agile. More competitive. And, in general, a nicer place. However, we are in the middle of a recession, both on my side of the Atlantic ocean, and on all other sides of all other oceans.

This makes companies more cautious, and less eager to gamble. Hard facts is the only arguments that bites. I know most of us in this forum somehow, sometimes, plays the role of the salesman. As such, you probably struggle with the same issues as me.

BPM and overcoming complexity - New slide show - Steve Towers

New slidedeck reviews complexity in process management and how to eradicate it.

James Rosenegk (Smith) James Rosenegk (Smith) - Consultant at Kaizen Training and Managing Director of Future State Consulting Ltd

Steve, I love the comment about outcomes (slide 13). If we design our offerings with the customer's outcomes firmly defined and in place - and better still if we jointly design the process that will give them those outcomes - then we will truly conquer some of the complexity in organisations!
